About and methodology
PompeQC is an independent project that helps you find the cheapest gas station anywhere in Quebec. No sign-up, no tracking: just the prices reported by the stations, laid out so you can compare them at a glance.
Where does the data come from?
- Prices, addresses and brands: since April 1, 2026, Quebec’s Petroleum Products Act requires gasoline and diesel retailers to report their prices to the Régie de l’énergie, which publishes them on Régie essence Québec. We check this data every 5 minutes.
- History: we have recorded prices every day since the site went online.
- Maps and routes: OpenStreetMap and OSRM.
PompeQC is not affiliated with the Régie de l’énergie, the Government of Québec, or any oil company or brand.
How are the figures calculated?
- Average price: simple average of the prices of the stations that sell the fuel in the area, not weighted by volume sold.
- “Fill up now or wait?”: change in the average price over the last 7 days. Beyond a 0.5% drop or rise, we call it a downward or upward trend; otherwise, prices are stable. It is an indication, not a forecast.
- Is the detour worth it?: savings on the litres you plan to buy, minus the fuel used for the round trip to the station, based on the fuel consumption you enter.
- Unavailable: fuel that the station reports to the Régie as not available right now.
- Costco: prices shown are those reported by Costco; its gas is for members only.
Stations are ranked by price only; nobody pays for a better position. Details in the legal notice.
Limitations
Prices are reported by the stations themselves and may have changed since their last update. The Régie does not publish opening hours. Always check the price at the pump. If you spot a mistake, write to us at [email protected].
